Police this week arrested the getaway driver involved in a fatal 2020 shooting in the parking lot of the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington. The gunman is still at large, but it has been reported that police may be closing in on him.

A shooting has occurred in the parking lot of a casino in Tacoma, Washington. This week, a suspect was arrested. Suspected driver David Sekou Sebowa Ward, 29, arrested Ty Jenkins, 25, on August 1, 2020, for first-degree murder.

Pierce County Superior Court Commissioner Craig Adams set Ward's bail at $1.5 million when he appeared in court Wednesday. He remained in the Pierce County Jail Friday.

Two hours before the casino shooting, Jenkins walked into the casino with an unnamed second person. The two then left and Jenkins entered the parking lot.

The unnamed suspect then got out of a nearby red Toyota Corolla and walked into the garage. He sneaked up behind Jenkins. He allegedly fired several shots at him. Jenkins died on the second floor of the garage.

The gunman then ran towards the Toyota, which sped away shortly after midnight with Ward driving, police said.

The News Tribune said Ward had no known criminal convictions and was not identified as a gang member in court documents. But a photo of Ward was seen on social media pages associated with the suspected shooter.

Additionally, Ward owns a red Corolla. Police said the rims on his car were similar to those used in the casino shooting.

Police suspect the shooter was Ward's half-brother and are hunting for the shooter in connection with the case, according to The News Tribune, a Tacoma newspaper. Local police told the newspaper this week that they were trying to arrest him.

shooter id
Police have evidence to identify the suspect shooter. He was wearing four large rings on his left hand at the time of the shooting, police said. Photos of the suspect wearing a similar ring were seen on social media.

A man was pawning Sihuan at a pawnshop shortly after the casino shooting, reports said. He also fit the description of the suspect as the shooter, police said.

Police then seized the rings at the pawnshop as evidence in the case.

gang violence
Police believe the casino shooting was gang-related and may have been an attempt to retaliate for an earlier shooting.

The suspected shooter is believed to be a member of the local Crips gang. Jenkins is a member of the rival Crips gang.

When officers searched Jenkins, they found a 9mm pistol and a rifle in his car.

The pistol's bullets matched casings found in four previous shootings in Pierce County. They also matched those found in a murder on Federer Road in Washington state.

Jenkins is believed to have been robbed at a gun sale in 2020. Police believe his potential shooter was involved in the deal.

Police said there was a retaliatory attack in July 2020. Another man involved in an early gun deal was shot nine times on Federer Road in July. Seventeen-year-old Brice Armstrong was also shot. Neither man is believed to be involved in the casino shooting.

The shell casings in the July shooting matched those from Jenkins' 9mm pistol, police said.

A 12-year-old boy was also injured in the shooting.

Emerald Queen Casino is owned by the Puyallup tribe of Indians.
