Resorts World Genting (abbreviation: RWG), formerly known as Genting Highlands Resort, is an integrated mountain resort owned by Genting Group through its subsidiary Genting Malaysia Berhad, including hotels, shopping malls, theme parks and casinos. It is the main attraction of Hill Station, located within the Pahang district of the region.

 

Resorts World Genting has seven hotels, one of which is a leisure resort. One of seven hotels, the First World Hotel held the Guinness World Record for the largest hotel in the world from 2006 to 2008, and regained the title in 2015 with 7,351 rooms following Tower 2A. In 2018, Forbes Travel Guide Star Ratings awarded Genting Grand Hotel and Maxim's a 4-star rating and a "Recommended" award respectively.

 

The resort currently has five shopping malls, Awana Sky Central, First World Plaza, Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, SkyAvenue, and Genting Grand Complex. Two shopping malls, Awana SkyCentral and Genting Highlands Premium Outlet, near Gohtong Jaya are connected by two connecting bridges. The remaining three malls are located at the top of the hill.

 

Resorts World Genting currently has three theme parks, Genting Sky World (formerly Genting Outdoor Theme Park), Sky City Amusement Park (formerly First World Plaza Indoor Theme Park) and Genting Grand Hotel Indoor Theme Park. Opened in 1994, Genting Outdoor Theme Park had 31 rides in its heyday, including a monorail service. [11] [12] [13] It closed on September 1, 2013, to make way for the construction of the world's first 20th Century Fox World. [14] However, since Genting Malaysia Berhad, Fox Entertainment Group and The Walt Disney Company were in the process of purchasing The Walt Disney Company's 20th Century Fox,[15] Genting and Walt Disney filed civil lawsuits against each other. On 26 July 2019, Disney and Fox entered into an agreement granting Genting Malaysia Berhad a license to use certain Fox intellectual property, and the theme park was eventually renamed Genting Skyworld. [16] Genting Paradise was postponed from 2016 to 2018 and then to 2020, and is expected to open in June 2021. [17] However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, construction work had to close and the opening date was pushed back, but no exact date has been given for the new opening, although most of the work has already been completed. In March 2022, Genting Sky World will finally open to the public for trial operation, and the official release date has not yet been determined.

 

The First World Plaza indoor theme park opened in 2001 with 12 rides at its peak and was closed for renovations from June 2017 to February 2018. On December 8, 2018, it opened to the public and was renamed Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, with some attractions mimicking the old attractions of the former Indoor and Outdoor Theme Park. The theme park also includes the first Asian location of VOID, a US-based operator of unique fully immersive virtual reality attractions, which opened its 7,000-square-foot (650 m 2) of the area officially opened. Opened in 1992, Genting Grand Hotel Indoor Playground is located on the lower level of Genting Grand Hotel and consists of two children's play facilities and a playground - Vision City Video Games Park.

 

Genting is one of the few casinos in Asia that can be compared with the Lisboa Casino in Macau. A sign at the gate of Resorts World Genting, the country's only legal land-based casino complex, said the sultans of the states of Selangor and Pahang had warned Muslims not to enter. There are two main casinos in the resort, Genting Casino at Genting Grand Complex and SkyCasino at SkyAvenue Mall.
